Project Introduction

Built on steep Himalayan slopes and exposed to intense wind and seismic activity, the Anji Khad Bridge required more than structural engineering. It needed continuous, real-time monitoring.

As India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge and one of the most complex to build, the Anji Khad Bridge stretches more than 590 meters, with a single pylon that rises 193 meters from its foundation. From the earliest construction stages, the project called for highly accurate monitoring to ensure stability and safety in constantly changing conditions.

Beyond the engineering challenge, projects like Anji Khad are vital connections for people and communities. Ensuring their safety from day one isn’t optional, it’s essential.

The challenge

Designed to withstand wind speeds exceeding 200 km/h and anchored in geologically unstable terrain, the bridge required uninterrupted structural monitoring, both during construction and throughout its ongoing use.

Between complex loading, environmental shifts, and limited site access, having a clear, real-time view of the bridge’s behavior wasn’t only helpful but also crucial.

The solution: infrastructure monitoring software by Proqio

To meet these needs, Proqio provided a unified monitoring platform that gathers, processes, and visualizes data from a broad range of sensors across the site.

The platform integrated data from:

  • GNSS sensors

  • Static and dynamic strain gauges

  • Accelerometers

  • Seismographs

  • In-place inclinometers (IPI)

  • Temperature sensors

  • 3D prisms, monitored via robotic total station and TCB

  • Tiltmeters

Key tools that supported the project

Proqio’s platform enabled:

  • Automated alerts for wind-induced vibrations and structural movement

  • Real-time dashboards tailored to the needs of engineering teams

  • 3D visualizations to support analysis and decision-making

  • Reporting tools to help meet safety and compliance standards

The impact

With Proqio in place, the project team gained:

  • Early warnings on critical movements or anomalies

  • Full visibility into structural behavior during and after construction

  • Tools to manage risk in a high-exposure environment

  • A digital record of compliance and long-term structural health

Having all monitoring tools in one platform gave the team real peace of mind. With full visibility and live data throughout the project, they stayed in control at every stage.

Key insights from Anji Khad

Major infrastructure projects in challenging environments require more than just strong design. They depend on clear, real-time data to guide them every step of the way. At Anji Khad, Proqio transformed complex structural readings into actionable insights that engineers could rely on. That shift from simply observing risk to actively managing it was what made the difference.

In large-scale civil infrastructure, the real challenge isn’t only about keeping structures safe and stable. It’s about protecting the people and systems that depend on them. With Proqio, monitoring becomes a way to take that responsibility seriously and stay one step ahead.
